Every year Wellington City Council provides a $54,000 fund to support young athletes reach their highest potentials. Nuku Ora administrates the fund and regional sports organizations can apply for the it to help finance sport development initiatives.
The program not only focuses on specialized training within the chosen sports, but also ensures young talents receive diverse physical experiences and mental wellbeing support. This follows the Balance is Better principle.
Nuku Ora supervises and reports the impact of the program back to Wellington City Council. In 2021, I was given the opportunity to produce a video case study as part of our end-of-year report. I took ownership of scripting, filming and editing the case study. Athletes from Wellington Hockey and Netball Wellington Central, two of the nine regional sport organizations that received the funding in 2021, were the subject of our video.
